Boat was recovered between two docks where strong winds and waves caused boat to partially submerge to windshield. The fiberglass hull is in poor condition with shiny gelcoat. There were no holes sighted but several gauges and scrapes particularly at port stern. Gelcoat chips at port stern quarter. No equipment could be tested as no power to boat at time of inspection. Item Location: Spring Hill, FL Description: This 1999 42’ Carver 380 Santego was damaged from heat when boat in next slip caught fire. Flybridge suffered smoke and/or soot damage isolated to port side, upholstery, the forward deck, windscreen, including portions of the canvas and port hull just below rubrail. The Flybridge helm station, gauges and controls have some heat, smoke and/or soot damage. Fire damage to 20% of Port deck and Flybridge side, most above rail in approximately a 6’ section below rail. Fiberglass hull is in fair condition except fire damage with chalky gelcoat. This vessel was reported to be in good condition, very clean and well maintained before the fire damage. The hull and running gear appeared to be in good condition except for heat damage on port side Flybridge. There was no power to this boat at time of inspection, so no testing was possible. ACCOMMODATIONS: Interior of boat is in overall good condition. There is some minor damage from the fire suppression efforts on the port side where the window is broken out but the rest of the interior appears to be intact. Master stateroom is forward with centerline queen berth, hanging lockers; storage under bed. Galley to port with full size refrigerator/freezer; facing settees. Head & shower; sliding door entry from cockpit. Cockpit has stern seating; double entries to swim platform; swim ladder and shower on platform with fender storage; storage under salon seating; carpeting & blinds, cushions. Water heater is in good condition. Windlass appears to be in good condition, not tested, condition unknown. Rubrail is in fair condition Port cabin windows broken out during fire suppression efforts. Bow pulpit appears to be in good condition Cockpit Bench Seat with Storage There is some discoloration to the port stainless steel rail and rails on Flybridge, rest of railings and grab rails appear to be in good shape. Stairs to bridge in good condition Storage in cockpit. FLYBRIDGE: Gauges and controls damaged by heat, soot and fire suppression. None of the controls or instruments were tested at time of inspection, condition unknown. Walkthrough windscreen on Flybridge damaged port side from heat. Door of walkthrough is damaged. Bimini canvas stained but intact No electronics sighted at time of inspection. The stainless steel bimini frame appeared to be in good condition. Stainless steel wheel on Flybridge scorched from heat but should clean up. Double wide helm seat with companion seating for up to 8 Ritchie Compass damaged by fire ENGINES: Twin Mercruiser 7.4 MPI Bluewater Inboard engines appeared intact. Boat settled listing to port . Helm helm station submerged. It was reported that right after this incident an attempt was made to repair alternators and starters. One alternator was not repairable. Both engines and generator reported preserved. After repairs, it was only possible to get the port engine running. The starboard engine started but would not run. The fiberglass hull is in overall good condition with some staining port aft quarter and the coach striping at waterline peeling in places. This boat was reported to be well maintained and in overall good condition prior to this incident. The port and starboard running gear, propellers, shafts and struts were reported visually in undamaged condition as were the two rudders and trim tabs, but not tested. Underwater fittings were also reported undamaged except for a clamshell cover on port side which was partially crushed from resting position of hull and clamshell. Wiring was submerged. The 120 volt AC and 12 volt DC switchboards in cabin submerged. Fuel and water tanks submerged. The 12,000 BTU air conditioning compressor and air handler located under cabin forward bed submerged. Fresh water pump submerged. Hot water tank submerged. Bilge and engine room blowers submerged. Bilge and shower sump pumps designed to operate under water, not tested. Seat cushions submerged.
